Professional Liability

You gave the advice. Now it's disputed.

A client says your recommendation cost them a contract. A filing gets missed. A design does not perform the way the spec said it would. General liability answers when someone gets hurt or something gets broken; professional liability answers when the claim is about your work, your advice, or your judgment. If your firm sells expertise, it is the policy that protects the thing you actually sell.

How we work

What a commercial advisor should actually do.

Your advisor

A named human, not a 1-800 number.

You get one advisor who learns your operation, knows your team, and remembers what happened at the last renewal. Same person at year five as at year one.

Proactive reviews

We call before renewal, not after a problem.

Annual proactive reviews. Quarterly check-ins for fast-growth clients. If you opened a new location, hired your fiftieth employee, or signed a major contract, we want to know before your policy does.

Carrier breadth

Independent access to diverse markets.

We're not tied to one carrier's appetite. Travelers, Liberty Mutual, Hartford, Cincinnati, Chubb, and dozens of other standard and specialty markets, we shop where your risk profile actually fits.

One roof

Commercial, benefits, and personal - coordinated.

Your business coverage, your team's benefits, and your personal insurance can all live under one advisory relationship. No more retelling your story to three different people.

What it covers

What professional liability actually pays for.

Professional liability, also called errors and omissions, covers claims that your professional services were negligent, incomplete, late, or simply wrong, along with the cost of defending those claims. That defense piece matters more than people expect, because a meritless claim still generates legal bills, and in most professional liability forms those defense costs come out of your limit rather than sitting on top of it. A $1 million limit spent on defense is a $1 million limit gone.

The structural detail to understand is that these policies are almost always claims-made, not occurrence. That means the policy in force when the claim is reported responds, not the policy in force when you did the work. Two consequences follow. Your retroactive date determines how far back your prior work is covered, so switching carriers carelessly can silently drop years of exposure. And when you stop carrying the policy, you generally need tail coverage, an extended reporting period, or your past work becomes uninsured.

What it does not cover: bodily injury and property damage, which belong on general liability, intentional or fraudulent acts, and employment claims from your own staff, which belong on employment practices liability.

Think you are covered correctly now?

Let us take a look at your current coverage.

Send us your current professional liability policy and any client contract that requires it. We will check your retroactive date, confirm whether defense costs erode your limit, and tell you whether the coverage actually matches the services you perform today rather than the services you performed when the policy was written. Scope drift is common and it creates real gaps.
